The Continuum - Julie Penrose Fountain

The Continuum - Julie Penrose Fountain, designed by David Barber and Bill Burgess, is a sculptural fountain representing the life-giving movement of water between the atmosphere and the earth.

As a result of the City of Colorado Springs' budgetary constraints, The Continuum - Julie Penrose Fountain, at the heart of our city, in America the Beautiful Park cannot be funded by the City. While the fountain operates with re-circulated water, some water replacement expense is incurred due to evaporation; additionally, staffing of the fountain is required for public safety, and supplies and maintenance costs are necessary for its ongoing operation.

The Continuum - Julie Penrose Fountain was originally funded, in part, by a substantial gift to the City from El Pomar Foundation in order to advance Julie Penrose's passion for arts and culture. The fountain provides free, safe entertainment for children and adults of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We "Create Community"!

As such, the "Friends of Julie Penrose Fountain", a component fund of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation (PPCF is a 501c3 organization) was established in 2009 to actively engage our community in fundraising to sustain this fountain in perpetuity. All contributions are tax-deductible, to the extent allowed by law.

El Pomar Foundation has issued an additional $12,500 Challenge Grant to be matched by our community to sustain the Julie Penrose Fountain in 2010 and beyond.

Additionally, the "Friends of Julie Penrose Fountain" is pleased to announce a partnership with Phantom Canyon Brewery to introduce the "Continuum Ale" this summer. The Continuum Ale, a light, refreshing "Belgian-style Wit" summer ale, will be tapped mid-May through August and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to sustain the fountain.
